MARIO MARTONE’S “NOSTALGIA”, CHOSEN TO REPRESENT ITALY AT 2023 OSCARS®, IS THE EUROPEAN FILM OF THE YEAR AT CAPRI, HOLLYWOOD INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

Annuncio di Noa, a dicembre premio al candidato italiano a Oscar Nostalgia” di Mario Martone, candidato all’Oscar per l’Italia, è il “Film Europeo dell’anno” al 27esimo ‘Capri, Hollywood the International Film Festival‘.

Il riconoscimento è stato annunciato dalla artista israeliana Noa presidente onoraria del festival che che dal 26 dicembre – 2 gennaio come tradizione aprirà la stagione degli awards internazionali. “il nostro board, designa con convinzione questa nuova preziosa e poetica opera di Mario Martone, come miglior film europeo” ha detto Noa, da sempre molto legata a Napoli.

La storia racconta del ritorno a Napoli di Felice (Pierfrancesco Favino) che, dopo 40 anni di lontananza, si reca nel quartiere dove è nato e con il quale ha un rapporto controverso e viscerale. Un legame forte, che sembra quasi divorarlo, e che riesce a superare anche i confini del Rione Sanità, estendendosi a tutta Napoli.

Pierfrancesco Favino, candidato come migliore attore agli European film Awards 2022, ha iniziato in questi giorni una intensa promozione americana in vista della short list del 21 dicembre che annuncerà i 15 migliori film stranieri in corsa per la statuetta. Dopo il successo di Los Angeles domani nuova proiezione a New York, nel cuore di Broadway, promossa da John Turturro, attore e regista che ha raccontato Napoli nel suo ‘Passione’.

Il film di Martone, uscirà nelle sale Usa agli inizi del 2023 distribuito da Breaking Glass Pictures, le nomination arriveranno il 24 gennaio. Ambientato nel popolare quartiere napoletano della Sanità, già in concorso a Cannes, Nostalgia” è tratto dall’omonimo romanzo di Ermanno Rea, produttori sono Picomedia, Mad Entertainment con Medusa che lo ha distribuito in Italia.

La sceneggiatura è dello stesso Martone con Ippolita di Majo. Nel cast Tommaso Ragno e Francesco Di Leva sono rispettivamente l’amico d’infanzia del protagonista Favino (che ritorna nella sua citta’ dall’ Egitto dopo molti anni) e un sacerdote impegnato ad allontanare i giovani dalla criminalità.

Capri, Hollywood, che portera’ sull’isola azzurra e nel golfo di Napoli i protagonisti cinema italiano e internazionale, anteprime e rassegne aperte al pubblico, e’ un festival promosso dall’Istituto Capri nel mondo con il sostegno della DG Cinema e audiovisivo del MiC e della Regione Campania’. Alla vigilia del suo novantesimo compleanno sara’ assegnato alla regista Liliana Cavani il premio “Master of Cinematic Art“, ‘Attore Italo americano dell’anno‘ è Frank Grillo, Lamborghini per Bobby Moresco.

Noa announcement, December award to Italian Oscar nominee
“Nostalgia” by Mario Martone, Italy’s Oscar nominee, is the “European Film of the Year” at the 27th Capri, Hollywood the International Film Festival.’

The award was announced by Israeli artist Noa honorary president of the festival, which from Dec. 26-Jan. 2 as traditionally will open the international awards season. “Our board, designates with conviction this new precious and poetic work by Mario Martone, as the best European film,” said Noa, who has always had close ties to Naples.

The story tells of the return to Naples of Felice (Pierfrancesco Favino) who, after 40 years away, goes to the neighborhood where he was born and with which he has a controversial and visceral relationship. A strong bond, which seems almost to devour him, and which manages to transcend even the boundaries of the Rione Sanità, extending to all of Naples.

Pierfrancesco Favino, nominated for best actor at the European film Awards 2022, has begun an intense American promotion these days ahead of the Dec. 21 shortlist that will announce the 15 best foreign films in the running for the statuette. After the success in Los Angeles tomorrow’s new screening in New York, in the heart of Broadway, was promoted by John Turturro, actor, and director who narrated Naples in his ‘Passione’.

Martone’s film, will be released in U.S. theaters in early 2023 and distributed by Breaking Glass Pictures; nominations will arrive on Jan. 24. Set in the popular Neapolitan neighborhood of Sanità, already in competition at Cannes, ‘Nostalgia’ is based on the novel of the same name by Ermanno Rea, producers are Picomedia, Mad Entertainment with Medusa which distributed it in Italy.

The screenplay is by Martone himself with Ippolita di Majo. The cast includes Tommaso Ragno and Francesco Di Leva as, respectively, the childhood friend of the protagonist Favino (who returns to his hometown from Egypt after many years) and a priest committed to turning young people away from crime.

Capri, Hollywood, which will bring to the blue island and the Bay of Naples leading Italian and international cinema, previews and reviews open to the public, is a festival promoted by the Capri in the World Institute with the support of the DG Cinema and Audiovisual of the MiC and the Campania Region”. On the eve of her 90th birthday the ‘Master of Cinematic Art award” will be presented to director Liliana Cavani, ”Italian American Actor of the Year’‘ is Frank Grillo, Lamborghini for Bobby Moresco.
