HERE IS THE COMPLETE LIST OF 2020 CAPRI AWARDS. ‘THE TRIAL OF THE CHICAGO 7’ NAMED BEST PICTURE AND CHLOÉ ZHAO HONORED AS BEST DIRECTOR FOR ‘NOMADLAND’

SORKIN’S MOVIE NABS FOUR AWARDS INCLUDING BEST PICTURE AND BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR. ‘MANK’ RECEIVES THREE AWARDS INCLUDING AMANDA SEYFRIED AS BEST ACTRESS

CAPRI, Italy, January 3, 2021 – At completion of the just ended 25th edition of Capri Hollywood – The International Film Festival, it was announced today that Aaron Sorkin’s “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” a compelling historical legal drama revolving around the trial of a group of protesters accused of inciting riots at the 1968 Democratic Convention in Chicago, has been named Best Picture of the Year.

The awards were announced here today by the Italian music legend and AMPAS member Tony Renis, alongside a prestigious Capri, Hollywood board which includes producers Mark Canton and Marina Cicogna, Oscar® winners Bille August, Bobby Moresco, Dante Ferretti and Francesca Lo Schiavo, Alessandro Bertolazzi, Nick Vallelonga and Gianni Quaranta, as well as Terry Gilliam, Michael Radford and Enrico Vanzina.
“The Trial of Chicago 7,” a DreamWorks Pictures production distributed by Netflix, received four wins including Best Supporting Actor Award to Sacha Baron Cohen, bringing Netflix’s total to 13 Capri Awards.
They Festival board also revealed that Chloé Zhao has won Best Director of the Year for her movie “Nomadland,” starring and coproduced by Frances McDormand. Best performers at the 25th edition of Capri, Hollywood are Anthony Hopkins for “The Father” and Sophia Loren” for “The Life Ahead” directed by Edoardo Ponti. “The Life Ahead” also won the Best Adapted Screenplay Award (the script was adapted from a novel by Romain Gary,) the Best Song Award for “Io Si Seen) composed by Diane Warren with the Italian version sung by Laura Pausini who wrote the Italian lyrics together with Niccolò Gagliardi, as well as the Humanitarian Award.
Three awards each went to the following films: David Fincher’s “Mank,” with the Best Actress Award going to Amanda Seyfried; Lee Daniels’ “The United States vs Billie Holiday,” including the Best International Producer award to Tucker Tooley; and to Gianfranco Rosi’s “Notturno,” Italy’s entry at the 2021 Oscars, as Best International Feature of the Year, European Feature of the Year and to Donatella Palermo as Best Italian Producer of the Year. “Minari,” the 2020 Sundance Film Festival winner distributed by A24, scored two wins – for Lee Isaac Chung’s Best Screenplay and Emile Mosseri’s Best Score. The Best Animated Feature award went to “Soul” (Pixar) which opened the 2020 Rome Film Festival, while Carlo Poggioli was honored for the costumes he designed for Ciro Guerra’s “Waiting for the Barbarians”.
The Festival, produced by the Capri in the World Institute, is supported by the Director General for Cinema and Audiovisual of Italy’s Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Activities and Tourism and the Campania Region, along with the Town of Capri, the Municipality of Anacapri, the Italian Red Cross and Nuovo Imaie.
Other Capri, Hollywood honors, which traditionally pave the way to the international awards season, were announced today by Festival founder and producer Pascal Vicedomini including the Italian-American Artist of the Year to Frank Langella, co-star of “The Trial of the Chicago 7” and the 2020 Nuovo Imaie Italian Worldwide Award to Salvatore Esposito “Fargo” and Matilda De Angelis (“The Undoing”.)
The European Director of the Year is Thomas Vinterberg (“Another Round”); the Capri People’s award went to Dito Montiel, screenwriter of John Leguizamo’s “Critical Thinking” and winner of the “Capri Special Contest 2020.”
On the Italian side, Antonio Capuano was presented with the “2020 Capri Peppino Patroni Griffi award” by his pupil, the Oscar-winning film director Paolo Sorrentino. Italian Performers of the Year are Elio Germano (“Volevo nascondermi”) and Teresa Saponangelo (“Il colpo in testa”.) The 2020 Capri Art Award went to Claudio Noce (“Padrenostro”) and Susanna Nicchiarelli (“Miss Marx”). The Italian Breakout Film-Maker of the Year Award was won by Pietro Castellitto (“I predatori). The Capri Cult Award went to “La verità su La Dolce Vita” by Giuseppe Pedersoli, “The Rossellinis” by Alessandro Rossellini and Giorgio Verdelli’s biopic “Paolo Conte – Via con me.” The TV Series of the Year award is “Vivi e lascia vivere” by Pappi Corsicato.
Additional Music awards were given to Clementino (the Neapolitan rapper whose performance in Sergio Castellitto’s new movie is highly anticipated); Elodie (host of the forthcoming edition of the Sanremo Song Festival) and for the performances by Diodato, Gaia and Bugo.
And the classic “Friends of Capri – Teodorico Boniello” Awards were given to Vanessa Bryant (in memory of her late husband Kobe Bryant and her beloved daughter Gianna), Stefano Lucchini, (President of the Robert Kennedy Center for Peace and Justice – Italia) and Danilo Iervolino, President of the Università Telematica Pegaso.
