“Dolemite is my name”, starring Eddie Murphy, received the “Best comedy of the year Award” at Capri, Hollywood

The Italian Film Festival To Take Place December 27th – January 2, 2020 CAPRI, ITALY, December 12, 2019 – The year-end awards contender “Dolemite Is My Name” starring Eddie Murphy in the title role has been selected to receive the ‘Best Comedy of the Year Award’ at Capri, Hollywood – The International Film Festivals’ 24th edition and will have its Italian premiere here. Simultaneously it was announced that the American director Paul Feig (“Bridesmaids,” “Ghostbusters,” “Last Christmas”) has been named the festival’s first-ever ‘King of Comedy.’ The annual cinematic event that will run through January 2, 2020 has become an important stop for films on the road to year-end awards and accolades. “Eddie Murphy’s tour de force performance is amongst his best and truly awards-worthy,” said festival founder/producer Pascal Vicedomini in making the announcement. “The film, which chronicles the exploits of Rudy Jay Moore, is a comedic biopic that is a real audience pleaser and thanks to Netflix, our festival goers will have the opportunity to experience it at Capri, Hollywood.” Vicedomini continued: “Throughout his career, Paul Feig’s penchant for comedy has resulted in some of the most hilarious and memorable motion pictures of our time. We’re thrilled that he will be with us in Capri to accept the festival’s much-deserved inaugural ‘King of Comedy Award’.” In Netflix’s “Dolemite Is My Name” Murphy brings Rudy Jay Moore, the legendary comedy and rap pioneer, to life on the big screen in a hilarious portrayal of his alter ego Dolemite, who became a 1970’s blaxploitation phenomenon. Directed by Craig Brewer from a screenplay by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, the film is produced by John Davis, John Fox and Murphy. The film also features Mike Epps, Craig Robinson, Tituss Burgess, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Snoop Dogg, Ron Cephas Jones Wesley Snipes and Da’Vine Joy Randolph. Feig, who in his earlier years in the entertainment industry worked as a stand-up comic and film and television actor, first gained prominence as creator and co-writer of the cult comedy series “Freaks and Geeks,” which was included in Time magazine’s 100 Greatest Shows of All Time. He made his directorial debut with the film “I Am David,” which premiered at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival. In the ensuing years he brought a number of highly successful comedies to the big screen including the acclaimed “Bridesmaids (2011)” which was nominated for a Golden Globe as Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy along with Oscar nominations for Melissa McCarthy as Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Screenplay. Amongst his other films are “The Heat (2013),” the multi-Golden Globe nominee “Spy (2015),” the female driven remake of “Ghostbusters (2016),” and this year’s “Last Christmas.” The festival has previously announced three awards – the Best Ensemble Cast Award to Quentin Tarantino and Sony Pictures’ “Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood,” Steven Zaillian for his Best Adapted Screenplay of Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman” and Marco Bellocchio’s “The Traitor,” which has been named the Best International Feature Film of the Year Award as it competes as Italy’s entry for Best International Feature Film at the 2020 Oscars and begins its run for the European Film Awards in several main categories. Organized by the Capri in the World Institute, this year’s edition of Capri, Hollywood – The International Film Festival will be dedicated to the Italian filmmaker Gillo Pontecorvo on the 100th anniversary of his birth. It is presented with the support of Mibact-Dg Cinema and Italy’s Campania Region in collaboration with numerous private sponsors.
